"Photography Contest"

Capture an image that reflects this year's theme: "Life After Dark"
There will be five categories to illustrate this year's theme:

  1. Category 1: Scenic/Landscape
  2. Category 2: Portraits
  3. Category 3: Floral
  4. Category 4: Animal/Insect
  5. Category 5: Black & White (All B&W judged together regardless of subject matter.)


Awards:
1. Within each category, there will be a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, place winner:
First prize: $100 Second prize: $50 Third prize: $25
2. Best Photo of Theme: $125
3. Best of Show: $500
4. People's Choice: People's choice ribbon

Contest Rules

Submission:
All entries must be received at the Plains Indians & Pioneers Museum by 5:00 p.m. September 4, 2010. Entries may be submitted starting August 3, 2010. Each entry must be accompanied by two completed entry forms and entry fee. (Entry forms are available on our website at pipm1.org; from the home page click on calendar, photo exhibit, and then link to sign up form. We will receive your entry form by e-mail).

Entry fees are $10 per entry or $25 for three entries.
Make checks payable to Plains Indians & Pioneers Museum, or Pioneer Museum.
There is no limit to the number of images that can be submitted.
The PIPM assumes no responsibility for submitted entries.
Eligibility requirements:
Each image must be the work of the person submitting the image.
Entrants under 18 years of age must submit a release from a parent or guardian.
Images must have been created within the previous three years.
Images that have won in previous PIPM photography competitions are NOT eligible.

Presentation requirements:
Size: The image must be viewable in size at least 5" X 7" and no larger than 8" X 12"
Matting: Each image must be presented in a SINGLE, 4-ply WHITE mat. (No double or triple matting) the mat should be at least 1" wide on each side around the image. But the outside dimension of the mat must be no larger than 11" X 14". The completed entry must be ready to hang when submitted.

Identification:
Front: Do not place any identification on the image itself or on the front of the mat.
Back: On the back of the mat, attach the identification portion of the entry form and indicate the orientation of the image by writing "TOP" in the proper place on the mat.

Judging: Entries will be evaluated based on appeal, content and photographic skill. The decision of the judge(s) is final, both for the winning entries and images selected for the exhibition.

Sales: The PIPM will receive a 30% commission for any images sold as part of the contest or the exhibition.

Winning entrants agree that the PIPM has the right to use, without further compensation, their photographs for promotion and publication of the photography contest, as well as other related uses.

The judge for the 25th Annual Photography Contest will be Heath Shelton from Guthrie Oklahoma. Mr Shelton has his own photography studio, and is PPA certified. PPA certified is a designation granted by Professional Photographers of America, the world's leading certification agency of, and largest Association for, imaging professionals.

 

Closing reception for the exhibition will be 2:00 p.m. on October 30, 2010.
Awards will be presented during the closing reception.
All photographs will be removed from the PIPM gallery following the closing reception. Entrants that are unable to pick up their entries following the closing reception, and wish to have their entries returned, must provide a self-addressed stamp envelope (SASE) or make other arrangements with PIPM.

Entries that are not picked up by December 1, 2010 will be disposed of.
